Where To

FARMERS MARKET
By Alexandra Van Nostrand

Amidst the concrete and chaos of New York City, Greenmarket Farmers Markets provide access to sustainable and healthy lifestyle choices. NYC's Greenmarket has the largest national network of locally grown products sold directly to consumers, with 19 markets open seven days a week in Manhattan and more than 50 in the outer boroughs. Since no middlemen are allowed, the markets guarantee that the food you purchase directly supports farmers and local communities at affordable prices, whether you are shopping with food stamps or for a five-star restaurant. (All stands must accept food stamps for EBT-eligible products, but acceptance of credit or debit tokens for additional products is at the discretion of individual stands.) With farmers and world-class chefs explaining innovative ways to maximize fresh seasonal flavors and explore new culinary possibilities, you won't leave a Greenmarket empty-handed.

Union Square Greenmarket is a great starting point to explore the diversity of regional agriculture in a beautiful public space, with up to 140 farmers, bakers, and fishers selling their wares. Come Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m, and bring your reusable bags. Become a part of the local food movement that supports sustainable regional agriculture.
